Local Research Student Scholarships

The University of New South Wales offers the following scholarships to local students of exceptional research potential to undertake a higher degree by research at UNSW. Students will be considered for these scholarships to undertake either a PhD or a Masters by Research degree, as appropriate.
- Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA)
- University Postgraduate Awards (UPA)
The scholarship comprises an annual stipend of $22,860*
The awards are provided for three years for a PhD and two years for a Master by Research.

International Research Candidate Scholarships

The University of New South Wales offers the following prestigious scholarships to international students of exceptional research potential to undertake a higher degree by research at the University of New South Wales.
- International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS). Provides payment of tuition fees, overseas student health cover, waiver of visa charges and an annual stipend of $22,860*
- University International Postgradaute Award (UIPA). Provides payment of tuition fees and an annual stipend of $22,860*
- Tuition Fee Remission Scholarship (TFR)+ Faculty Research Stipend. Provides remission of tuition fees and an annual stipend of $22,860*
The awards are provided for three years for a PhD and two years for a Master by Research.

University College Postgraduate Research Scholarship (UCPRS)
This scholarship is awarded and administered by the University College to support students (both international and local) to undertake a postgraduate research degree at UNSW@ADFA.
The annual stipend for 2011 is AUD$22,860 as per the APA rate plus an additional AUD$1,200 per annum top-up. The stipend is paid in fortnightly instalments.
NOTE: There is no application for this scholarship. Applicants who apply for Local or International Research Student Scholarship will be automatically considered for a UCPRS.
Prospective students with outstanding performance (roughly equivalent to the top 40% of first class Hons students) may be eligible for an out of session UCPRS offer.
University College Postgraduate Research Scholarship Top-Up (UCPRS - Top Up)
A top-up of AUD$1,200 per annum is paid to all UCPRS award holders. Award holders in receipt of a Local Research Scholarship (APA/UPA) or an International Research Student Scholarship (IPRS/UIPA) will also receive a top-up of AUD$1,200 pa to bring them in line with the UCPRS.
Equity Scholarships
Awarded to a female student in a non-traditional area of study at the UCPRS rate. Applicants for APA, UPA, IPRS, UIPA or UCPRS are automatically considered for this scholarship
Establishment Scholarships for Commencing Research Scholarship Students
An Establishment Scholarship of $1,000 will be provided to commencing higher degree research scholarship students at the beginning of their candidature at UNSW@ADFA
School Supplementary Award (SSA)
School Supplementary Award with a value of up to $12,000 pa (taxable) may be available to holders of one of these primary awards: APA, UPA, UCPRS, University College Equity Scholarship, Research Training Scholarship and Defence & Security Applications Research Centre Scholarship.
Support for China Scholarship Council (CSC) Sponsored Students
UNSW@ADFA will provide a top-up scholarship of $10,000 per annum including Overseas Student Health Cover to each CSC sponsored PhD student from Beihang University (BUAA), Ocean University of China (OUC), South China University of Technology (SCUT), Tianjing University (TU) and Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU).

Please note that the School of Business considers only students in the final year of their Master’s degree, and because of the special demands of Social Science research, English requirements are high.

Summer Undergraduate Research Scholarships

Guidelines and Application Form
Sudents who have completed at least the equivalent of three years full-time study towards their first degree in an Australian University are eligible to apply.
This program provides an opportunity for students to interact with active researchers to gain research skills, learn how to present research results and test their abilities in a particular area of research. This interaction is aimed at informing the students' decisions regarding further higher degree studies.
